I’ve been waiting for a working Sitemap module for Drupal v6 – and I finally decided to go out and find a third-party solution… I’m a big fan of three column layouts – I just think that it’s the most elegant and info-packed method to set up a website, particularly a blog or community site. In general, I like to put important menu items on the left, and information type items on the right. One of the reasons that small business owners are generally in the top tax bracket, is not because they tend to be workaholics, putting in 60 hour workweeks – although such is common. The reason they tend to be wealthy is because they’ve learned that a business can take on a life of it’s own – and you earn not just from your own efforts, but from the efforts of others as well. I’ve upgraded my website several times – so I can hardly be considered an expert… but I’d like to document the steps I take to upgrade my Drupal site – so that others have a roadmap to follow. Keep in mind that those who are on a dedicated server may have different procedures, I’m on shared hosting (a fantastic site called Hot Drupal)… but if you’re on a dedicated server, you’ve probably already done this a few times! Drupal – out of the box, has URL’s that form patterns such as this: node/1234 , user/53, and taxonomy/term/27. So if you write your very first article, the URL to that article will look like this: www,example.com/node/1. Just wanted to write down my thoughts for others who may be trying something similar. This website will eventually be a social website, designed for the benefit of people who are trying to earn money on the Internet. It will allow private messaging, buddy lists, groups, and many other features of social websites. Do you want to put up a website? Do you want to do it quickly, with little effort? Do you want your website to have well thought out SEO practices, and the ability to ‘ping’ search engines when new content is added? Do you want to bypass months of tedious learning and coding? |
