Quote of the Day
War is much too serious a matter to be entrusted to the military.
Where is BurningKnife Starting From?
Just a short note - my Alexa rating is 14,382,667 - and the site went active this week. My goal? Break into the 1 million rank area within 2 years. Mark the date, and let's see how close I can come. It's probably helpful that my site isn't a 'new' one - the domain has been active since 2002. (A solid reason to look into purchasing a 'used' domain name, rather than a brand new one that's never been used.)
My PR ranking is zilch - but it will be interesting to see how fast it rises. My goal? A PR 2 ranking by the end of this year, just three short months away. Build to a PR 4 by the middle of next year.
I currently have 55 pages indexed by Google, and 10 pages indexed by Yahoo. (Having a sitemap probably helped me there) Pretty good considering that I just went live. I just added a link from a PR 6 rated site that I own - so that will, I'm sure, help.
Goals are important, but it's also important to know where you started, so you can chart your progress. This is why I'm posting this for the world to see.

Sounds like a very good plan
Sounds like a very good plan to me. I am happy with just increasing traffic on a monthly basis.
Goals are Important!
I think you have to have goals - and it's nice to document where you were - so you can see what improvement you've made. This will be a 'benchmark' of sorts for others to be able to judge the progress of their website. I only have a single link that I've created so far... within a few days I'll begin link-building using the very same techniques I talk about on this site. I'll probably put up an 'ad' listing on Ebay - and I'm thinking about the paid stumbles that one of our members mentioned - I may toss $25 that way just to see what happens - but I'll have to create a splash page just for StumbleUpon - so I can track what happens.

Alexa Ranking will almost certainly break the 1 million mark within two years, it's been only four months and I've gone from a ranking of 14,382,667 down to today's ranking of just 1,021,809... so I'm a mere 21, 810 slots away from breaking a million. I did not make my goal of a PR ranking of 2 by the end of last year, I'm currently sitting at a PR of 1.
My backlinks are steadily increasing, and in this coming week I'll be starting to hit the Social Bookmarking sites. In preparation for that, I've gone back and set keywords and descriptions for all my articles - which is something I should have been doing all along - it's not a critical area for SEO - but it doesn't hurt at all.
I now have 293 pages indexed on Google, and 323 pages indexed on Yahoo. I've begun to start a linking pyramid, with Squidoo (and eventually Hubpages and others) pointing to here - and articles pointing to the Squidoo & Hubpage sites. So many things to do, and so little time!
I also set up a "Quote of the Day", which will help my website in the view of search engine spiders - since they'll be seeing new content everytime they visit... although I don't think it's documented anywhere, I have the sneaking suspicion that if a search engine spider keeps seeing the same content, they'll start to visit you at more widely spaced intervals... and I'd prefer to be spidered frequently!
