A Quick And Dirty Autobiography

Just had my morning coffee...I began with computers far earlier than most people – my first computer, in the early ’70′s, was a mainframe that I communicated with via a teletype machine. I finally owned my own first computer in the form of a Timex Sinclair. I moved, through the years, through Commodore’s VIC-20, 64, and 128… playing around briefly with an Amiga, before finally getting my first 286 machine that ran DOS. I resisted Windows as long as I could (I’m a DOS poweruser at heart), finally admitting defeat, and began running Windows 98. I currently own a number of computers, and prefer to build my own computers – as I can save money and build a more powerful computer when I ‘roll my own’.

I got on the Internet back in 1990 – when the only browser was Mozilla, and most of the Internet really didn’t exist in today’s format. When domain names cost $35 a year, I dove in and bought one – and now I own a dozen or more domain names & websites. My first website was entirely hand-coded, and I learned HTML the hard way – by doing it. I still think that you can’t go wrong by learning HTML – there are so many times where a basic knowledge of HTML is valuable. Today, with CMS’s such as Drupal or WordPress – the average person can put up websites far superior to my first few, with almost zero knowledge of coding, and in a fraction of the time it took me.

I first started playing around with earning money on the Internet with Ebay – and still consider it one of the easier ways to earn money on the Internet without too much effort. I sold vintage postcards for several years, and then wrote an ebook about the topic. I sold a number of copies on Ebay – and discovered how easy it was to sell ebooks… compared to vintage postcards, it was a snap. So I got into selling ebooks just 6 months before Ebay banned selling downloadable content. I was earning as much as $1,000 each month, and didn’t pay any attention to those who warned me to diversify my income sources. So when Ebay stopped allowing downloadable ebook sales – my income fell dramatically.

I still saw income from my websites, and realized that I really shouldn’t allow any one company to have such control over my income – so rather than try building another Ebay product ‘empire’, I decided that website income should be my focus – no-one can ‘shut me down’ with my websites as Ebay did. But information is still my main focus – the advantages of selling information is tremendous. I get checks from multiple sources – Clickbank, Amazon, and Google’s Adsense, to name a few – so my income is diversified, and I can add more advertising venues anytime I feel like it.

I was finally enticed into building this website, and providing my knowledge for free – when I read the inspiring story of another website builder – who built up from nothing to $1,700/month in just five months. The Internet provides a tremendous opportunity for anyone who cares to publish their thoughts – you don’t need a book publishing company, or to own your own radio station or newspaper. So if you have an area of expertise, or are willing to research one, you can earn money on the Internet by doing simple work. Whether it’s simply pushing an affiliate product, or going all out with a membership website – you can earn extra income on the Internet. Here at BurningKnife.com, we’ll show you how.
